Welcome to Turangi
Turangi is situated at the southern end of Lake Taupo, four hours drive from either Auckland or Wellington and only 40 minutes drive from Taupo. World renowned as The Trout Fishing Capital of the World. Turangi was build on the wonderful banks of the Tongariro River.
The Turangi/Tongariro region is an outdoorsmans paradise. Offering challenging hunting, fishing, mountain biking, white water rafting, kayaking, hiking or leisurely bush walks, sight seeing and also has New Zealands largest ski area on Mt Ruapehu.
Things to do in and around Turangi
FLY FISHING: This area boasts some of the best fly fishing waters in the world with year round fishing for wild rainbow and brown trout
HUNTING: The surrounding forest parks offer hunting for red and sika deer, wild boar, wild goat and seasonal game bird hunting. Local Guides are available on request.
MOUNTAIN BIKING:
There are many kilometers of mountain biking tracks in the area. Ranging from gentle and scenic river side trips to the more challenging 42nd traverse, going through the Tongariro forest park.
Mountain bikes are available for hire.
WHITE WATER RAFTING:
The Tongariro river is one of New Zealands most famous rivers. Its magic waters provide fun filled roller coaster rides with exhilarating rapids and breath taking scenery. www.krs.co.nz
TONGARIRO ALPINE CROSSING:
Considered one of the top 10 one day hikes in the world. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is a 7-8 hours hike traversing two active volcanoes. On this 19.4 km hike you will pass alpine meadows, rugged lava flows, emerald lakes and waterfalls, with views to die for from start to finish.

SKIING:
Mt Ruapehu has two ski fields. Wkakapapa and Turoa. These are new Zealands largest ski fields and open from mid June through to mid October www.mtruapehu.com/winter

WALKING TRACKS:
There are many walking trackings in the Turangi Area. They range from 10 minutes to 3 hours. Some you can walk to from your accommodation and others are a 15 - 20 minute car drive away
